Jeff Siegel Scholarship

The Jeff Siegel Memorial Scholarship was created in 2003 for the purpose of remembering Jeff Siegel of G.M.D. Sales.  Jeff was a long time corporate member and past industry advisory committee chair of  New York State School Food Service Association.  Jeff was admired for his professionalism, his commitment to the Association and for his integrity.  Jeff never passed a day without telling a story about his children.  His love for children inspired his family and the Association to offer a scholarship in his memory.

The NYSNA Industry Advisory Committee is offering three (3) $500 awards. These awards may be used for registration for state conference including the NYSNA Annual Conference and NYSNA Legislative Conference (LAC). Scholarship Application for ANC Philadelphia

Purpose:

In 2008, the School Nutrition Association (SNA) Annual National Conference (ANC) will be held within a reasonable driving distance for NYSNA members. Many of our members have never attended a national conference and never experienced the tremendous opportunity to benefit from a wide variety of educational programming, presentations from nationally recognized speakers, networking opportunities with peers from all over the country and hundreds  of exhibits which a national conference offers.

This year, the NYSNA Industry Advisory Committee held its first golf tournament with profits earmarked to offer complimentary registrations (costing $375) to ANC. Conference 2007 basket raffle proceeds also were designated to fund registrations for  ANC. Thanks to these two fund raisers and the sales of “school lunch lady” dolls by the Professional Development Committee, NYSNA will offer 14 paid registrations to ANC

Being held in Philadelphia, PA, July 20-23,  2008.

The purpose of the award is to encourage members of NYSNA and SNA who are Food Service Directors, Assistant Directors or Managers, those in a position to purchase for their programs,  who have either never attended the Annual National Conference or have not attended in the past three years, to attend the 2008 SNA Conference.

***Note -  the award is for registration only; the award recipient is responsible for reserving and paying for  a room, meals, pre-conference workshops and  travel expenses.

Procedure:

Complete the award application and mail it to NYSNA Headquarters by May 1, 2008. The applicant must attach the Superintendent's letter at the time of application.

The Industry Advisory Committee and the Professional Development Committee will review the applications and select fourteen (14) winners and two (2) alternates who will be notified by May 15th. The award winners must register for conference by completing the  SNA conference registration form and mailing it to Headquarters for payment by May 25th. The fifteen award winners must have made a room reservation for the conference by May 25th when the completed ANC registration is due at Headquarters. This award is not transferable and applies only to ANC 2008.

Qualifications:

1.               The applicant must be a current member of NYSNA and SNA. It is acceptable for the award applicant to become a member at the time of application, although preference will be given to members of longer standing.

2.              The applicant must be either the decision maker for the Food Service Program or hold a position which involves purchasing for the program.

3.              Preference will be given to the applicant who has never attended a National Conference over one  who has not attended the annual National Conference within the past 3 years.

4.               The applicant must attach written, prior approval from the District Superintendent in order to apply for the Scholarship.

5.              The applicant  must adhere to the time line published in this letter.
