With new professional standards coming from USDA, it's more important than ever to invest in training and education. Getting certified will give you a head start to prepare yourself for professional standards.
New York State Certification
If you are interested in becoming certified you need to meet these requirements:
- One year of employment in school foodservice;
- Attend the NY State Master Instructor 10 hour Sanitation Course;
- Be a Member of NYSNA;
- Obtain 15 Continuing Education Units (CEUs) every 3 years.

Professional Development Program Application
NYSNA is excited to offer a new training module to our members. This program is a new program designed to provide training to food service employees. This will be a four (4) hour training program with one or more segments, as selected by the applicant.
This program will be available until funding has been exhausted (15 programs). The program is designed to include the Key Areas and Key Topics under the USDA Professional Standards (Nutrition, Operations, Administration, Communications and Marketing).

Boot Camp 101
NYSNA is excited to offer a new training module to our members. We will send a trainer to YOU to do a Food Service 101 program for food service employees. Some of the topics covered are: sanitation, customer service, and merchandising.

Earning your SNA Certificate in School Nutrition shows your commitment to your profession and helps you stay current on the job.

3 Simple Steps to SNA's Level 1 Certificate in School Nutrition
It is easy to get started towards a Level 1 Certificate, with 3 simple steps:
STEP 1: Complete one 8-hour Nutrition Core Course and one 8-hour Food Safety Core Course. The National Food Service Management Institute (www.nfsmi.org) offers both 8 hour courses online and free of charge!
STEP 2: Send SNA a completed application, payment and Certificates of Completion.
STEP 3: THAT'S IT! SNA will send a letter confirming applicants that you have earned your Level 1 Certificate in School Nutrition and then you can share your success using the certificate program celebration tools at www.schoolnutrition.org/certificatesuccess.

SNA established the School Nutrition Specialist (SNS) Credentialing Program in 1997 to enhance the professional image of school nutrition professionals, elevate professional standards and enhance individual performance.
The SNS Credential is a mark of excellence and achievement that reflects what it takes to manage school nutrition programs in today's challenging climate. The SNS Credentialing Exam evaluates candidates' knowledge and skills required to perform specific job activities related to managing or directing school nutrition programs.
